InflowWind v1

A module for reading and interpolating wind inflow files

by Bonnie Jonkman
National Wind Technology Center

The InflowWind code is used to return wind speeds at a time and location requested (input) from a calling program. InflowWind reads a variety of wind file formats (including binary full-field files generated by TurbSim) and interploates the data when necessary. Different wind file formats may pose restrictions on when or where the wind speed data are valid.

InflowWind was originally part of the AeroDyn code; it is now separated into its own module and can be used by other programs not tied to AeroDyn.

A version of InflowWind is available for use with FAST 8 and may be downloaded from the InflowWind v2 page.

You may download the following files (compatible with FAST 7/AeroDyn 13) from our server:

  • InflowWind Change Log (v1.02.00c-bjj, 4 KB, 23-April-2013)

This is a list of changes made to the code. Look at this text file to see if we've made worthwhile changes since you received your previous version of InflowWind.

  • InflowWind Archives (v1.02.00c-bjj)
    • InflowWind Archive for Windows® (EXE 818 KB) (v1.02.00c-bjj, 9-August-2013)

This is a self-extracting archive of InflowWind for Windows®. It contains the InflowWind source code, sample input files, documentation, change log, and sample driver programs. It includes a Matlab® mex function for 32-bit Windows®.

    • InflowWind Archive for Linux (tar.gz 304 KB) (v1.02.00c-bjj, 9-August-2013)

This is a compressed archive of InflowWind for non-Windows® users. It contains the InflowWind source code, sample input files, documentation, change log, and sample driver programs.

InflowWind was developed using NWTC Subroutine Library v1.07.00b-mlb. We used Intel® Visual Fortran Compiler XE 12.1.3.300 [IA-32]. The MATLAB mex function was developed using MATLAB® version 7.14.0.739 (R2012a) [win32].
